In 1924 Horace Smith established one of the first Electrical Contracting Companies in Wakefield . His business grew in size and reputation as the City 'switched' from gas and coal to electricity. In the sixties prestigious contracts included the new Market Hall in Wakefield and Empire Stores' new Headquarters just outside the city on Horbury Road .
